2:27 pm - This update on my life...
|
will be short.
1. If anyone cares (which I suspect most won't), football season is done. I was a starter for most of the year and we made the 1st round of playoffs. We were 6 (wins) and 3 (losses) this year.
2. I found out this past Tuesday that after August 17, I will no longer be employed as a security guard at Hamline. It means, I am loosing my job/being laid off. Currently searching and applying for a new one.
There is no other news.

10:03 pm - All the News that is fit to print
|
I haven't been spending time on my computer lately. And when I have, I usually forget to check Livejournal.
The happenings in my life are;
Being forced to change what time my shift starts at work. I will be starting work at 6am and ending at 2pm starting Saturday March 2. With this I am changing my days off from Tuesday-Wednesday to Friday-Saturday so that I don't have to spend so much vacation on Football away games. @ Durga - Wednesdays after 2pm will most likely still work, I'll just have to take you home sooner.
Football practice has started again. I don't know where we will be playing this year, but it is not looking to be like it will be at Hamline this year. I will post the game schedule closer to the start of the season.
Looking to get rid of a few things. The items are free and will go to the first person who asks. Anything not asked for by Friday March 8 will be taken to the nearest Goodwill. All offered things are as follows: Lord of the Rings: Two Towers Battle Doll Angelic Layer #1 The Transformers Movie (1989 animated, not the 2007 live action) 8ft. car jumper cables
Looks like we are going to be getting a cat. Pictures will come after cat is settled.
All for now

9:11 pm - I'm Baaaaaack!
|
At least for this post. :-p
Lets see, what I can remember since last post that has happened...
-I believe that I broke a toe, especially since it turned purple and made it hard to walk.
-Started to referee ice hockey games again, with mixed results.
-The Vixen as a team have switched leagues. What does that mean to all of you? I play in the spring this year instead of the summer/fall, so the season will be starting soon.
-Been playing too many video games (FFXII, Fable, LEGO Star Wars). Most of the reason I haven't updated.
This is something I was shown and want to share. Anyone who was in marching band and/or video game addicts should be able to appreciate this:
Just think of the hours of practice that took.
Bye bye now

9:30 pm - Uh, lets see
|
Feeling better about myself lately. Perhaps because a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders now that I am no longer a supervisor of child-like adults.
Good things that have happened: -got license plates for car, engine block heater installed, car door repainted (manufacturer's fault) -played more in last football game even though we lost -weather has turned to a more comfortable temperature for me -bought and have been playing FFXII
Bad things... Have to work during last Vixen home game because of Hamline's Homecoming (all of you are welcome to go watch any way. Game is at St. Thomas's field instead)
Time for bed because work is at 7am

1:40 pm - The nightmare is almost over
|
Later today I meet with the insurance adjuster to find out what my car is worth. Then they will take it most likely for scrap.
Why? Because this is what the damage looks like:
If the wheel had not snapped, I could have dealt with the cosmetic damage.
Also, apparently the St. Paul Police have caught who they think is the run-away driver and want me to do a photo line-up identify.
Then maybe I can get some sleep during the day instead of being interrupted by phone calls.

2:40 pm - Bad car-ma
|
This morning I was involved in an auto accident.
It turned into a hit-and-run auto accident.
I am fine.
The car is not.
The passenger side rear tire currently sticks out at a very odd angle. In fact the only thing keeping it near the car is the fact that it is lodged between the car side and the bent mechanics. The axel that is supposed to be holding wheel to car is broken in half. Frame under car is bent near the place where wheel would normally attach to, which is part of what is holding the wheel to the car.
In other words, this damage will cost too much to fix and so the car will most likely become scrap in the very near future.
I'm gonna have to go find another car now.
BTW: I got the license plate number of the car that drove off after hitting me. Gave said plate to the police. Apparently the car owner's girlfriend was the one driving when it hit me.
Gonna go allow my system to calm down now.

11:51 am - I'm all right
|
Got to hear about the bridge accident at the Twins game. I had insisted on using the bus/light rail to get to the dome instead of driving. Wouldn't have gone that route anyway (too far out of the way).
Seems most of my teammates are alright as well. I'll probably find out more at practice tonight.
My cousin in Burnsville is also alright. And I've already called my parents to let them know I'm ok.
I'm gonna try to go donate blood because I'm up despite my best efforts to sleep and I'm one of those universal donors of the positive variety.

5:11 pm - The Good, The Bad, and The WTF?!!
|
The Good: New apartment has been connected to the internet. Now we don't have to go to Hamline to check e-mail and such.
The Bad: I seem to have sprained my ankle at football practice. Walking is fun right now.
The WTF: Someone or a group of someones stole the front license plate from my car. Yes, that's right, just the front one. Now I have to get replacements...

2:40 am - My Life as it Currently is
|
I don't seem to remember to do this much do I?
But I guess that I should give everyone an update.
Health: Ok I guess. I've been having lower back problems lately. I am probably going to have to find a massage therapist to help me with that.
Job: Fine, except recently I've felt like a glorified babysitter lately. Some of the students have been naughty.
Life In General: Is alright. I'm not broke. We will (hopefully) be getting a larger apartment. And if all went well, my new computer should arrive later today (Wednesday).
Some of you may or may not have noticed the new user pic that is displayed with this post. I decided to make it when I am going to let you know about Vixen games. Yes, I am playing again this year. I signed my contract in April and practices started just this week. So when you see this logo, know that I am letting you know when a game is or I am speaking mostly about the Vixen and not my personal life.
FYI: I know it is early, but the first home game is going to be on September 1 this year. But I will probably be updating before the game because I know how forgetful some of you are.

8:27 pm - So I made it back
|
My vacation was fine, and thankfully rained at least once a day while I was there. I miss the rain sometimes...
My parents miss me, that much was made clear. They took me out to each every night I was there. And I probably could have gotten anything I wanted from them (within reason). But I didn't ask for anything because they need the money for their retirement. My parents are almost old enough to retire.
I went to see both zoos in the area. I wanted to see what they were like again. I like Woodland Park's set up better. They have a lot of space for their animals, which is something I like to see.
I got to visit with a couple of my friends from High School. Admittedly, I do need to try and stay in touch with them better. It should not be just a once a year thing.
However, I think I caught a virus while in Washington, or perhaps on the plane. I had just a sore throat yesterday but now my nose is running. Hopefully it will be gone soon.
But that is all I have, so time to go.

6:29 am - Save your toilet paper rolls
|
I have gerbils! And they love to shred cardboard.
They went through the toilet paper roll I had for them already in about 20 minutes. So if anyone has toilet paper rolls they can save for my pets, I would appreciate it.
They are girls and their names are Serra Angel and Reya Dawnbringer. Don't get it, don't worry they are Magic the Gathering card game characters. The colors of the gerbils reminded me of those specific cards.
If you're luck, I'll post pictures of them. Of course they will have to hold still first. So far that is not something they are good at.

10:23 am - Cars = Stress
|
I thought yesterday was going to be a nice day. That is until I spent 4 hours at the repair shop with my car.
I was driving it down I-394 when the check engine light came on, then the RPM odometer went crazy and the car was slowing down with my foot still on the accelerator. I made it off the freeway onto an exit ramp where the car completely stopped and the battery light and engine oil light came on in addition to the check engine light. I had no idea what was wrong, and what's worse is now the car is blocking an off ramp.
5 minutes later, I am able to start it up again and I move it to a fairly empty parking lot. I check the engine oil (about all I really know how to do). The dip stick says it needs oil. So I got out one of the quarts of oil from my trunk and poured it in. 10 minutes later, I start the car and all the dash board lights turn off after start-up. I thought I fixed the problem and could get on with my day.
10 minutes later on I-94, same problem happens again. I wait 5 minutes and go again. Same problem happens 3 minutes down the road. In all, it happened a total of 5 times before I got the car to a mechanic. The car also died twice on the mechanics as they attempted to diagnose the problem. They had to tow it back to the shop the second time it died (which was at County Road B and Snelling Ave)
The problem: the crankshaft sensor in the engine has fouled up and so the cylinders in the engine are not firing properly to keep the car running.
At least I got home...

9:41 am - I'm Batwoman!
|
Or at least that is what a co-worker is calling me right now; all because I got a bat out of someone's dorm room last night.
Nothing boosts my ego more then being called a hero and having 5 buff college age guys stare in awe as I take care of something thing they can't handle.
Here's the story:
At around 1:20am we get a call from the RA on a floor (sorry not gonna divulge more information then that). He says there is a bat in someone's room. So I grab a pair of latex-free gloves and a trash bag before I headed over. Two guys were in the room while the other three were outside. The two in the room were trying to swat the bat (poor thing!). So I got them out of the room, put on the gloves and went in. One of the guys remarked, "You're so brave. Can I have your autograph?". Another of the guys offered me a flashlight, until I showed him the one I carried (4 D cell Mag-Lite :-P).
So as I am trying to figure out the best way to catch the bat, it starts flying around me. I hear behind me "dude she's not even flinching!". And why should I be, its only a little brown bat. However, before I can get to it, the bat climbs down the brick wall and virtually disappears. So we are all looking for it when it appears on the other side of the room. They quickly vacated the room again as I waited for the bat to get to a resting spot where I could pick it up cleanly. When I do, the poor thing starts shrieking its little head off. I took it outside and put it on a tree. It flew away after a few minutes.
This whole thing totally made my day. :D
PS: I know bats can carry rabies, but that is why I picked it up so it couldn't bite me.

3:46 am - I know I'm late on this, but
|
I'm posting it anyway.
01. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me." 02. I respond by asking you five questions of a very intimate and creepily personal nature. Or not so creepy/personal. 03. You WILL update your LJ with the answers to the questions. 04. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post. 05. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
( Interview by Durga )
Also to share is this long but interesting list I found near Professor Polk's door. I laughed at it every time I stopped to read it. ( Cow Politics )
And because I have made this too long (even though most of it is under cuts) I'm going to end this update right here.
or maybe here...

11:57 am - *Suddenly appears*
|
Hey all,
Just a post to give y'all an idea of what I've been doing. Seeing how I don't see many people anymore.
Took vacation to go to Laskiainen(I can't spell or pronounce it) so I only worked two days of my last work week.
We got a new betta. Still no consensus on a name as far as I know.
Went skating on the "pond" near the apartment this morning.
In other news, I am looking to buy a new computer. Any suggestions?
Time to disappear again because I've got nothing left.
